Consolidation in the telehealth market may create a full range of virtual care services, KLAS says

Telehealth vendors face the challenge of offering a full range of virtual care services. But, recent consolidation among leading companies may change it all, according to a KLAS Research report.

KLAS polled healthcare professionals about their experiences with popular virtual care platforms, including American Well, Epic, InTouch Health and SnapMD. KLAS also interviewed customers of MDLive, swyMed, Vidyo, VSee and Zipnosis. Since the sample of respondents were small for these vendors it hindered KLAS Research from generalizing its findings.

KLAS Research defined telehealth needs of three types: virtual clinic visits, telespecialty consultations and on-demand or urgent care sessions.

Although multiple vendors offer support for all these three visit types, none of the vendors had a large proportion of customers using all three. None of the vendors who were a part of the survey, seemed capable of meeting provider organizations’ telehealth needs.

American Well entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Avizia as part of a move to create an enterprise telehealth platform to treat patients in the hospital and home care settings for urgent, acute and post-acute care, the report notes. InTouch Health said it would acquire Reach Health to expand market share.
