The American Medical Association (AMA), is aggressively pursuing its journey to go digital to ensure that members get appropriate support in their own efforts to embrace technology.
AMA Board Chair Jesse Ehrenfeld said that the rise of digital-native physician will profoundly impact health care and patient outcomes. It will place digital health technologies under pressure to deliver according to higher expectations.
The AMA survey sets guidepost to understand what physicians require to adopt new technology. The survey has insights to physicians and health care institutions and also provides the medical association with important guidance about going digital. This will lead to the creation of a new online resource to help physicians navigate the legal complexities and operational challenges while giving patients an access to their digital health information.
This is the first step towards convenience and accessibility in the health care space in the US. The guidance is put together in a document called the Patient Records Electronic Access Playbook.
This will give practical tips, case scenarios and best practices necessary to protect patients’ privacy while empowering them and their caregivers with easy electronic access to complete medical records.
Two announcements after the launch of the playbook:
First announcement mentions that the AMA has found a strategic partner to help explore the documentation burden that distracts from patient care. AMA CEO James Madara said that documentation overload interferes with patient care and leads to physician burnout. The aim is to facilitate technology innovation to reduce the burden and provide physicians more time with patients not paperwork.
The second announcement is that it has partnered with the RedCrow, which is a direct investment platform for health care innovation that assists entrepreneurs to connect with physicians to design products and solutions in line with the needs and wants of the industry.
Madara said that this new collaboration brings together the expertise of physicians and the passion of entrepreneurs to develop cutting-edge technology leading to the improvement in the way the health care system works.
