The federal government has clarified the way it regulates remote patient monitoring and the changes could significantly impact and potentially restrict the usage of telehealth and mHealth by care providers while they take care of patients at home.
Caregivers look out for mHealth and Telehealth support
Surveys conducted by Oregon-based Cambia Health Solutions reveals that nearly two-thirds of the nation’s caregivers are using at least one mHealth or telehealth software to manage their caregiving responsibilities. Roughly 40 percent are looking for more digital health solutions to improve care management.
VA observes a rise in veteran’s use of telehealth services
The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs has declared a 17 percent jump in telehealth visits as compared to previous fiscal year. VA delivered more than 2.6 million episodes of telehealth care in FY 2019.
Telehealth can provide support to Medicare Diabetes Prevention Program
Medicare Diabetes Prevention Program (MDPP) is not getting a satisfying response so, lawmakers have urged federal officials to add telehealth to the program. A group of 19 senators have addressed a letter to Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar and Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Administrator Seema Verma, asking them to make virtual care part of a Medicare-backed service.
CMS decides new reimbursement rules for Remote Patient Monitoring
Finalized guidelines were released by the Centers of Medicare & Medicaid Services with regards to remote patient monitoring services. Hospitals and health systems will now see Medicare reimbursement for more remote patient monitoring services.
